Rock 'n' Reel (R2)

"Playing Rapunzel's 'Abseiling for Beginners' is one of those gems that occasionally sneak out of the pile. Mich Sampson and Marilisa Valtazanou's vocal harmonies soar and shimmer over beautiful piano and vertiginous flute on an entrancing collection taking in everything from the traditional to Steve Knightley, with class and passion reminiscent of While & Matthews."

David Kidman, Folk and Roots

"an abundance of both beauty and emotion in the performances, and in the songs they've chosen to perform...tremendous voices: supremely strong and confident, wonderfully clear in both diction and timbre, and tending to be technique-driven with great use of harmonies and parts...All in all, I find this an endearing and enchanting disc...and one which is worth any beginner diving backwards off the parapet to sample. Go on - take the plunge!" (full review on Folk and Roots website)

From fans

"I laughed, I cried and came away with the distinct impression that I know very few musicians in any genre who can hold a candle to these two."
Annie Walker, Weyrd Music

"...joyous interplay and professionalism...excellent vocal blending."
Richard Wheatley

"I am familiar with Mich's voice in other contexts and was intrigued to hear what she could do with folk music. The versatility of her unique sound, coupled with that of Marilisa convey a warmth which allows one to drift away and be swept away on a wave of emotion. The range of instruments they play so masterfully creates a different feeling for each track. I particularly enjoyed the range of songs on this album – from very traditional folk ('As I Roved Out') to 'Lies' a paean to ageing lovers – wistful and joyous by terms and the heart-wrenching 'Seven Days' which for some reason brought tears to my eyes. Oh yes, the unusual insertion of Sholem (a Yiddish song which cries out for peace) is a wonderfully complex insertion into a 'so English' album sung and played by complex, multi-faceted, gloriously London musicians – where everybody is from somewhere. These ladies celebrate a multiplicity of roots and music – buy, listen and share – you will play this album again and hear something different on each occasion."
Margaret Greenfields

"No need to say that I have become a Mich & Marilisa junkie. Is there a cure? If there is, I don't want it. They were just so good."
Juliane Honisch
